Michael Sliwinski — №20 with Joost Wouters

I turned 35 on May 20th. I wanted to make this day special. I wanted to do something unusual and positive. In the spur of the moment, I decided to search for my long-forgotten unfinished book on passion I had started to write a couple of years ago. I got to reading it and found out it was more than two thirds written. It was time to finish it up. I set down for two days straight and completed it. As it was right before my birthday, and I felt someone should get a present, I decided to give this book to everyone for free.

In the book I share my personal story of seven types of passion I discovered from over seven years of running Nozbe. I try to prove that once you find out what turns you on, what adds sense to what you are doing, everything is easier — the obstacles are less terrifying, and stress and fatigue seem to be far away. I hope that this book inspires you to continue, or maybe just begin, your journey towards a passionate life.

7 types of passion

Throughout my professional career, I have discovered that there is not just one thing I am crazy about that lets me work, improve, fight the obstacles, and succeed. There is a whole range of passions that motivate me and help me go on and get up every day with excitement: passion for the money and the possibilities it offers (not to be confused with greed), passion for the solution, for building a product, improving my industry, growing as a person and leader, and passion for helping others and interacting with other passionate people.

I describe and analyze these seven types of passion throughout my book. These passions are related to each other and actually grow from one to another, but they are all there. All of them are unique in their own way and make my life richer and more fulfilling.

Passionate people from all over the world

Over the years of running my business, I have met lots of passionate people who have inspired me to do what I do and who helped me shape my personality with their passion. Some I know personally. Others, I simply follow online. Yet they all shape me as a human being, and their passion influences me. I am always looking for these types of people in the crowd and try to get closer to them. Passion is contagious. Interacting with passionate people makes you feel much better and stronger.
